Getting dental implants in Gloucestershire is not just a matter of popping into the dentist and coming out half an hour later with great new teeth. This is a journey of several stages that takes a few months from beginning to end. Dental implants may sound daunting but the results will be well worth the time and effort you put in to the process.
Why does it take so long to get dental implants in Gloucestershire?
There are 4 stages to getting dental implants in Gloucestershire here at Implant & Ceramic Dental Studios.
The first stage is the consultation. During this, our implant surgeons will want to know all about what you hope to achieve with your dental implants. They will also need to know about your medical and dental history.
They will then take an in-depth look at your mouth, including your existing teeth and your jawbone. Having a healthy jawbone is vital if your dental implants are going to be successful. Your jawbone is going to have screws put into it and then you are going to chew hard on those posts, every day. If your jawbone has deteriorated and lost size and density, it may not be able to withstand the creation of the channels for the implants, and the chewing that comes afterwards.
You may need to have teeth removed that are failing. You may have been without teeth for a while and need braces to put the remaining teeth back where they should be if they have shifted into the gaps. You may need a bone graft or sinus lift to strengthen your jawbone. All of these treatments are important, but can add weeks or months to your treatment time.
Surgery does not take long. A morning or an afternoon at most. In some cases, we can send you out with temporary crowns already attached.
Recovery and healing
It can take weeks or months for your dental implants to fuse with your jawbone. Only when this fusion process is complete can you start chewing properly on your new implants.
It’s a bit of a process, but many, many people have said how worthwhile it is to get their freedom back.
