dental implant crown A crown is essentially a single replacement tooth, whereas a bridge would be used where more than one tooth requires replacement.

While conventional crowns can leave a black line at the gum, porcelain crowns have a distinct advantage in that they can be made to blend in perfectly with your own teeth, giving a more attractive and natural smile.

The porcelain used is the same as that used for porcelain veneers which is very strong and durable and gives an excellent appearance.

fixing a porcelain crown

A crown may be fixed as follows:

over an existing tooth. this is where the tooth is damaged or broken but the root is strong enough to secure a crown
fixed to a dental implant. this is where the tooth is missing, or else is in such poor condition that it cannot secure a crown. In this case the old tooth is removed and a dental implant is fitted into the jawbone. The crown is fixed to the implant stump
